Corrections policy

How to tell us about an error, how we check it, and how a correction is shown.

Tell us

If something on IMC Report is wrong, missing or out of date, tell us. You do not need an account.

A source helps us act faster, but a report without one still prompts a check.

How we check

  1. A person reads every report. Nothing changes automatically.
  2. An editor checks the claim against its source, and against the vendor's or publisher's own material where it exists.
  3. If we were wrong, we correct it. If we cannot tell yet, the listing is marked under review, or the claim is taken out until it is settled.
  4. If you left an email, we tell you what we decided and why.

How a correction is shown

  • Listings show the month they were last checked, and an accepted correction updates it. Notable corrections are recorded in the public corrections log.
  • Articles and guides When a correction changes the meaning of a piece, we add a dated note at its end saying what was wrong and what changed. Typos and broken links are fixed without a note.
  • Landscape lists If a position was wrong (a ranking misread, or a source replaced by a newer edition), the list is corrected and the change is noted under its method.
  • Nothing is changed quietly We do not remove a correction note, and we do not silently change a figure someone may already have quoted.

Disagreements

If a company disagrees with how it is described, it can send evidence like anyone else, and we weigh it on its source. If we keep our version, we say why. Whether and where a company is listed never depends on its cooperation.
